It’s no secret that Shelley Duvall had a rough time shooting The glow. Her role as Wendy Torrance, the frightened wife of a deranged husband, was so detrimental to her health that she lost lumps of her hair from the weight. And Stanley Kubrick, renowned for his in-film perfection, experienced an “excruciating” set.

As a result of the pain he suffered, Duvall admitted that she was “embarrassed” by Kubrick while making the horror film. Here’s why.

In the fascinating Vivian Kubrick documentary with the title Make the glow, fans can get a behind-the-scenes look at the filming process. Halfway through the film, Duvall is seen lying on the floor as a result of an anxiety attack. Several production assistants try to serve the 70s star, giving her pillows and water in an effort to reduce their weight.

Duvall reflects on the moment in a recent interview with Comingsoon.net. “I remember I had a really bad attack on a set, and I believe that’s what’s reflected in the documentary,” she says. “As most people know, the shooting was really hard on me, and I got to the point where I couldn’t take it now. I needed some rest, but resting costs money and people have to take the bullet, so I had a bit of a break. ”

She describes the difficulty of shooting 16 days, saying it was one of “gloomy events”.

“I think it was only 10 minutes, but I just had to put my head together,” she says of her confused attack. “We burned for long days, sometimes 15-16 hours, and it takes a lot from you. This was one of the worst set events I’ve ever had, but the result was worth it. ”

According to Duvall Make the glow, the actress was hurt by what Kubrick did to her. She questioned the reasons that inspired him and took over. Duvall opens up about her feelings, saying,

“I lamented Stanley at times because he pushed me, and it hurt. And I regretted it. I was thinking, ‘Why do you want to do this to me? How can you do this for me? ‘You agonize over it. And it’s just an essential temptation to get what you want … And I have a lot of respect for it and I enjoy it both as a man and as a leader. I wonder. ”

Fortunately, good times were shared between Duvall and Kubrick that were not picked up by the media. According to the actor, Kubrick could be “very warm. ”There were even times when they were laughing and joking around a set!

“Oh, Stanley gets a bad reputation sometimes, but he was a perfectionist,” she tells comingsoon.net. “We had moments when we were laughing and joking around a set.”

She later said, “Stanley was a very kind and warm man… And while the feeling in a set was sometimes unpleasant, I now remember a film that became a horrible classic. I am amazed at the fact that people are still watching and talking about 31 years later. ”
