Willow Smith Admitted to Mom Jada Pinkett Smith She Had a ‘Really Terrible Experience’ With ‘Whip My Hair’

Infamous Jada Pinkett Smith Red Table Conversation the series inspired some spectacular performances for the Smith family. The web TV talk show is technically a “forum where the views of three different generations on many topics are shared.” But in practice, Pinkett Smith’s tables serve as a sort of safe and secure place for her family to share their true feelings.

Her 19-year-old daughter Willow did just that while talking about her experience with the famous single “Whip My Hair” from 2010. She said she had to forgive her father, actor Will Smith, after the distribution of the song.

Like her older brother Jaden Smith, Willow began her Hollywood career with her father. She was cast in the movie I am a Myth (2007) and reappeared Kit Kittredge: An American Girl (2008). Before long, she moved into a music career.

Both Will and Jada have acting and singing talent that they have passed on to their children. In 2009, Jada announced that Willow would release a record. The same “Whip My Hair” went to platinum and topped the U.S. charts at number 11. Just like that, everyone was following Willow.

She regretted her reputation after ‘Whip My Hair’ became popular

The song was a great success. But Willow was unhappy with what happened next or with her father’s role in making it happen when she was so young.

I definitely had to forgive you and my dad for that whole ‘Whip My Hair’ thing. It was basically daddy because it was so hard at certain times, ”Willow said in December 2018 Red Table Conversation episode.

“It was a year or two, honestly. Trying to regain trust for not feeling like I was listened to or cared for as I felt, ”she continued. “And I had to forgive myself because I felt guilty because everyone is trying to make me better, trying to make my dream come true. But I didn’t really understand what was in my dream, ”she said.

“Whip My Hair” is a strong hymn about staying true to yourself and avoiding neglect. But after her illustrious rise, Willow had to convey that message more than she ever imagined.

“He was after that whole ‘Whip My Hair’ thing and I had just stopped singing lessons and I was kind of just in this gray area of, ‘Who am I? Do I have a reason? Is there anything I can do other than this? Willow spoke about her emotional state at the time.

She continued, “After the tour and the promotion and everything, they wanted me to finish my record. And I was like, I don’t do that. And after all that kinda settled down and it kind of seemed like a lull, I was just listening to a lot of dark music. It was just so subtle that I was caught in this black hole, and I was cutting myself. ”

Willow said she “completely lost my temper” at the time. “I never talk about it because it was so short in my life. But you have to pull yourself out of it, ”she said.
