Where is Sokovia?

Sokovia is a fictional country in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and also the foundation of HYDRA activity. HYDRA uses Sokovia to advance its agenda, operating under the guise of being SHIELD representatives. HYDRA representatives use the underground base to conduct Loki climbing experiments.

One HYDRA representative got the climb after using Loki in the battle of New York. HYDRA tests were not as successful as they had hoped and instead decided to test human subjects. Selected test subjects included Wanda and Pietro Maximoff.

Maximoff’s couple were offered the necessary ‘tools’ to fight against the government and told they would have power like the Avengers. When the Avengers attack the base of HYDRA activity in Sokovia, they liberate the people the group uses as test subjects.

In the story, Sokovia is an unstable country, thus protesting against the ruling government. Sokovia is mentioned extensively throughout the Marvel Universe, especially in the series SHIELD Agents.

Why fans are raining about Sokovia

Remember those Easter eggs we mentioned earlier? Sokovia is one of them. Although Sokovia is a fictional country in the MCU, it is located between the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Fans were horrified to learn that Marvel had misinterpreted the country.

According to some Reddit users, the writers of the right did not study enough before settling on the fictional country. Many fans were concerned about this revelation. Some fans came up with specific reasons to support their theory as to why they feel Sokovia is historically and geographically erroneous.

Some of the arguments put forward include the language used by Sokovia in the MCU. The theory is that Sokovians use the Cyrillic script while the Slavic nations around Sokovia use Latin. Another follower suggested that, since the Sokovia writers revolved around Slavic countries, it should not be as poor as they showed since the surrounding countries are doing good for themselves.

Some fans came up with places that might be more suitable for Sokovia and the MCU story. However, others noted that if the demonstrators had been placed in any of the proposed areas, locals would still be trying to find fault.
